Cristina Vela has been in love with drawing, graphic novels, and illustrations from a very young age. She was born in Andalucía, Spain and currently lives in Sevilla, where she graduated for the University of Fine Arts.
Most of her work is done in pen. She has won several contests for her work and published a graphic novel called, “Medusas y Ballenas”, which is also illustrated in ballpoint pen.
This series of small drawings, were part of the collection called Los Castigos, which translates to “the punishments” in English. This collection was exhibited at the Gallery Felix Gómez of Seville in 2013 and is a commentary on her memory of the “mild” punishments suffered by misbehaving youths.
The subject of most of her work is women. She is largely inspired by memories; a mixture of tradition, myths, and fairy tales. Currently, she is working on a second graphic novel and preparing for a second exhibition of small-format drawings. To read more visit her website.
